An alleged case of scandal is reported in the BPO unit located in Nashik, belonging to the IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). According to recent allegations, the company was accused of sexual harassment and attempted conversion of individuals to the Hindu religion. In the last seven days, a total of nine FIRs were lodged on the basis of complaints filed by eight women and one man, resulting in the arrest of six individuals working within the organisation.
The SIT has already found twelve victims, most of whom are in the age range of 18 to 25 years old. The facts coming out from the police report make for a very disturbing account of work-related abuse. Some of the complainants claimed that they had been continuously molested, including touching them improperly inside the office lobby and office desk. In a particularly serious case, there was a claim that a certain accused co-worker had sexually involved himself with the complainant on the pretense of marriage.
Besides sexual harassment allegations, there are accusations of religious harassment and the degradation of religion. Several FIRs reveal that certain employees were using abusive language against Hindu gods for deliberate injury to the feelings of religion. Victims are reported to be forced to eat non-vegetarian food against their religion, and in some cases, they were even coerced into doing Islamic prayers. An aggrieved person narrated the incident where accused persons were abusing women of Hindu religion verbally as part of harassment.
In another FIR, the issue of internal company management has been thoroughly scrutinised. According to one FIR, a complainant was continuously raising issues against her harassers, who were continuously staring at and stalking her and physically harassing her. However, her complaints had been ignored by the company's management.
With the SIT further investigating the digital clues and analysing any possible external connection, the mood in Nashik is still tense. Although six people, among whom Tausif Attar, Danish Shaikh, and Raza Memon named in FIRs are already in police custody, the police have said that other arrests could soon be made as more information is collected from the digital clues.
