Nida Khan, a central figure in the allegations of forced religious conversions at Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Nashik branch, is currently in Mumbai and expecting her first child, according to statements from her family.
Despite being sought by the authorities, Khan has reportedly approached a local court in Nashik to file for anticipatory bail. It is understood that her legal team may highlight her pregnancy as a primary grounds for the application.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with her arrest is expected to verify these medical claims through official channels as they continue their efforts to locate her. Khan, who is 25 years old, has been with the TCS BPO unit in Nashik since 2021.
New details have emerged regarding Nida Khan, the Nashik HR head for TCS who is 25 years old, has been with the TCS BPO unit in Nashik since 2021. Sources have informed that, contrary to her reported senior status, Khan was actually employed by the firm as a telecaller.
The case has sparked national outrage, with allegations suggesting a coordinated effort by a group of employees to target young women between the age group of 18 to 25. Till now, as many as nine FIRs have been filed, including that of one male colleague complaining of religious harassment and conversion attempts. The allegations depict a rather dismal state of affairs in the workplace, where the gods of Hinduism were allegedly ill-treated, were forced to consume meat unwillingly, and subjected to undue religious pressures.
Eight individuals have been taken into custody so far. The group includes seven men — Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Sheikh, Asif Aftab Ansar, and Shahrukh Sheikh — and one woman. According to police investigators, a number of the individuals charged with misconduct were in positions of power within the company, taking advantage of their authority to instill fear among their subordinates. One particular case involved an accusation against Nida Khan, who was said to have actively dissuaded a female coworker from complaining about an attack, saying "it happens all the time."
It has, however, been confirmed by credible sources that the office was functional yesterday, with 60 staff members turning up for work, although reports suggested that the Nashik branch, where there were reports of suspension of activities.
Regarding the increase in cases of sexual harassment reported by TCS in its yearly disclosures after 2021, experts have highlighted that the statistics actually demonstrate a more resilient internal process within the organisation. They have indicated that the reason behind this increasing trend is due to better awareness and the adoption of POSH regulations. Instead of showing an increase in unethical behavior, the company believes that the statistics actually show their strong grievance handling process.
