Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav joined a student protest on Sunday, supporting the demand to cancel the recently held Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams.

However, his involvement has sparked anger among some student leaders, who accuse political parties of exploiting the movement for their own gain.

Student leader Dilip Kumar criticised the political interference, accusing parties of trying to "hijack" the protest for political advantages.

"Whenever a party is in opposition, they support us. But when they are in power, they stay silent and even allow lathi charges on peaceful protests," he said.

Tejashwi visited Gardanibagh in Patna, where students have been staging a 24-hour protest to demand the cancellation of the 70th Combined Competitive Exams (CCE) held on December 13.

Protesters allege the exams were riddled with discrepancies, raising serious concerns about transparency and fairness in the BPSC’s recruitment process.

Dilip Kumar accused Tejashwi and other leaders of hypocrisy, pointing out that during the RJD’s time in power, several recruitment exams, including the 2023 constable recruitment and BSSC CGL exams, were tainted by paper leaks, yet no action was taken.

He claimed that political leaders have now turned the protest into a "political platform," undermining its original purpose.

"The movement began with candidates organising themselves through a Telegram group, focused on ensuring transparency in competitive exams," Kumar explained.

"Despite the politicisation, the core protestors remain committed to addressing exam irregularities and demanding a fair recruitment process."

The BPSC controversy has also ignited a broader debate about the influence of education mafias and the state's capacity to ensure integrity in public recruitment. The students’ protest highlights growing frustration over irregularities in competitive exams and the urgent need for reforms in the system.
