The Telangana High Court on Friday granted Congress leader Pawan Khera one week of anticipatory bail in connection with a case registered by the Assam Police over allegations concerning the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The relief was granted by Justice Sujana Kalasikam while hearing a petition filed by Khera, providing him interim protection from arrest and time to seek regular anticipatory bail from a competent court in Assam.
“The petitioner is granted time for one week to file an application before the concerned court. Granting relief to the petitioner for one week with the conditions,” the court observed.
The case was registered at the Guwahati Crime Branch Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 175 (false statement in connection with an election), Section 35 (right of private defence of the body and property), and Section 318 (cheating).

The complaint stems from remarks made by Khera regarding the Assam Chief Minister’s wife, prompting legal action by the state police.
With the High Court’s interim order, Khera has been granted a one-week window to approach the appropriate jurisdictional court in Assam for further relief. During this period, he will be protected from arrest, subject to conditions imposed by the court.
The development comes against the backdrop of heightened political friction between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the case drawing attention due to the involvement of senior political figures.
Further proceedings are expected once Khera files his application before the competent court in Assam.
