Investigating the horrific blast at Sigachi Industries' pharma plant here is going to be an uphill task for investigators as three main officials who might have given vital information are among the dead. The fatalities of the factory manager, DGM (production) and an operator have also proved a big stumbling block in obtaining vital information for the investigation, a factories department official said.
The probe by the department will take around a fortnight, depending on the availability of data. But he assured that the outcome of the probe will not be delayed. The investigation will scrutinise in detail the possible lapses in safety measures, operational malfunction or any unexpected problem that could have led to the accident.
It is premature to comment on the inquiry since the rescue operations were over only on Tuesday, he informed the media. While the actual cause remains to be investigated, the official informed that the explosion that killed 38 is thought to have been caused by an over-pressure build-up in the dryer of the unit.

"Fundamental cause is excess pressure generated in the dryer. The factors responsible for pressure generation have to be investigated. The factors may be temperature beyond desired levels, apart from others." Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has requested a detailed report on the incident, including information on previous similar incidents and measures adopted for prevention.
Meanwhile, Sigachi Industries Ltd said it lost 40 of its team members in the explosion and fire at its Pashamylaram plant. The company also announced an ex-gratia of ₹1 crore each to the kin of the deceased in the deadly incident.
