The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Army, foiled a terror plot in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and arrested one suspect, officials said on Tuesday. During a vehicle-checking operation, security forces recovered two foreign-made pistols, magazines and 13 live rounds of ammunition.
Officials said a mobile checking point was set up by the District Police Baramulla and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles at Chandsuma, Kanispora, near the FCI godown on June 7.
A white Maruti Brezza (registration number JK02DN-6527) travelling from Srinagar to Baramulla was intercepted during the checking. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a Turkish-made pistol — a CANIK TP9SF METE (9×19 mm) — from a bag carried by the co-passenger, who failed to produce any valid licence or legal authorisation for the weapon.
The arrested person has been identified as Wakeel Ahmad Theekri, son of Noor-ud-Din Theekri and a resident of Kamalkot, Uri. A case under FIR No. 70/2026 has been registered at Police Station Baramulla under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act, and the weapon has been seized.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the driver was only giving a lift to the co-passenger and claimed to have no knowledge of the weapon. During a subsequent search, security forces also recovered a Chinese-made pistol, two magazines and 13 live rounds of ammunition.
