Nearly hours after the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector Joga Singh, a poster from a new and obscure outfit calling itself Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) has surfaced on social media claiming responsibility for the killing.
The outfit also issued fresh threats to security personnel and government officials and claimed that it would release a video related to the killing shortly.
The same organisation had earlier claimed responsibility for the killing of two cops in the Dorangla area of Gurdaspur, though the authenticity of that claim is yet to be verified.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir, said investigators were probing all possible angles in the case.
The terror outfit allegedly claimed that its “Al-Burak squad” had carried out the attack and warned that similar attacks would be carried out on army, police personnel, and intelligence officials across various regions.
Following the killing, the police have launched a massive investigation and search operation in and around the Majitha belt to trace the attackers.
Punjab is known for its history of peaceful coexistence among various communities, ethnicities, and religions.
It has become crucial for investigators to examine all angles, including terrorism, along with personal enmity, revenge, or attempts by gangsters and criminal elements with vested interests to disturb peace and public order in a state that is heading towards Assembly polls in 2027.
