Three persons were killed and two others suffered injuries after a car plunged into a deep gorge near Sarni Bridge in Chamba district on Saturday, police said.
The accident took place around noon on the Urai-Samra-Runahkothi road. The five occupants of the Maruti Alto were travelling to attend a religious function when the vehicle lost control and fell into the gorge, according to local reports.
The deceased have been identified as Chatro Devi and Bashahro Devi, both residents of Urai village, and the driver, Anku, a resident of Runahkothi village.
Local residents rushed to the accident site and rescued the injured. They were taken to Chamba Medical College in private vehicles for treatment. Police at Bharmour police station were informed soon after the accident. A police team reached the spot and began an investigation.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
