Three soldiers were injured following an accidental discharge of a service weapon at an army camp in the Trehgam area of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident took place late on Saturday night when a soldier’s rifle reportedly went off by mistake, hitting three of his colleagues.
An army officer confirmed on Sunday that the wounded men were immediately moved to a local military hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. While initial reports from some officials suggested the shooting might have been a case of fratricide, military authorities have since dismissed those claims, clarifying that the injuries were the result of a technical or handling mishap rather than an intentional attack.
Investigations into the situation are ongoing, and further details are expected once a formal inquiry is completed. The army has maintained that the situation is being handled internally as a standard accidental firing case.
