Addressing reporters after the meeting, Satheesan said the compensation would be extended to the dependents of all victims who died in the tragedy, including those whose identities were confirmed through DNA testing. The Cabinet also reviewed issues related to paddy procurement in Palakkad district and approved a series of measures aimed at resolving long-pending payment issues faced by farmers, the Chief Minister said. As part of the initiative, the state government will facilitate the release of Rs 52 crore in pending payments to primary cooperative societies engaged in paddy procurement operations. According to the government, the move is expected to help clear outstanding dues owed to farmers and provide relief to those facing financial strain due to delayed payments.
In another significant decision, the Cabinet approved the removal of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons appointed by the previous administration to various state boards and corporations. The vacancies created as a result of the decision will be filled through fresh appointments, Satheesan said.
The Cabinet also gave its approval for the appointment of special government pleaders and senior government pleaders who will represent the state government in cases before the Kerala High Court, the Chief Minister added.
