Bathinda has been turned into a police fortress for the ongoing Shukrana Yatra of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ahead of the upcoming Vidhan Sabha polls, officials said on Friday. Heavy deployment of police personnel was seen at key locations across the city, with several checkpoints set up to regulate traffic during the yatra.
Officials said some parts of the city may experience traffic congestion due to partial and full diversions along the route. They added that elaborate security arrangements have been made for the Chief Minister’s visit.
According to officials, the yatra will commence from Teen Koni Chowk and proceed to Amrik Singh Road, followed by stops at Kot Shamir and Bhagi Wander villages. The yatra is expected to conclude at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) has also announced that it will also hold a protest at Kot Shamir village today, which may cause confrontation between farmers and police personnel.
The yatra is being carried out the CM Mann to express gratitude for the passage of the Jaagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, which he described as a historic step.
The four-day yatra will conclude on Saturday after passing through several parts of Punjab, and ending at Fatehgarh Sahib.
