Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma will not contest the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, as his party Tipra Motha on Tuesday released a list of candidates for all 28 seats, entering the electoral fray independently after the BJP opted to go solo.

The announcement marks a strategic shift, with the party deciding to field candidates in all constituencies following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s decision to contest the polls without a pre-poll arrangement.

Debbarma, who had contested from the Takarjala-Jampuijala constituency in the previous TTAADC elections, has stayed out this time. The party has instead nominated Suraj Debbarma, president of the Youth Tipra Federation, from the seat.

The candidate list reflects a blend of continuity and organisational restructuring, with senior leaders retained alongside the induction of new faces. Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia and Chairman Jagadish Debbarma will contest from their respective constituencies, while former MLA Rajeshwar Debbarma has been fielded from Kulai-Champahour.

Among other prominent nominees, retired civil servant Chandra Kumar Jamatia will contest from Maharani-Chelagang. The party has also fielded Bhabha Ranjan Reang from Damcherra-Jampui, Swapan Kumar Chakma from Machmara, and Umashankar Reang from Dasda-Kanchanpur.

In Karamchharra, Ratish Tripura has been nominated, while Hangsa Kumar Tripura will contest from Chhawmanu. Hollywood Chakma will contest from Manu-Chailengta, and Dhirendra Debbarma from Demchhara-Kachuchhrra. Khotrojoy Reang has been fielded from Ganganagar-Gandachhara, and Prasmit Debbarma from Halahali-Asharambari.

Further candidates include Utpal Debbarma from Maharani-Pur-Teliamura, James Debbarma from Ramchandra Ghat, Rabindra Debbarma from Simna-Tamakari, and Runei Debbarma from Bodhjungnagar-Wakinagar.

Jiten Debbarma will contest from Mandainagar-Pulinpur, Gita Debbarma from Pekuarjala-Jamjeyjaynagar, and Buddha Kumar Debbarma from Amtali-Golaghati. David Murasing has been nominated from Kathalia-Mirja-Rajapur, Kamal Kalai from Ampinagar, and Dhananjoy Tripura from Raima Valley.

Sujoy Uchoi will contest from Natunbazar-Malbasa, Kenaram Reang from Birchandranagar-Kalshi, Debojit Tripura from Purba Mahirpur-Buratali, and Manindra Tripura from Silachari-Manubankul.

With candidates announced across all constituencies, Tipra Motha has positioned itself for a multi-cornered contest in the TTAADC elections amid shifting political alignments in the state.
