Traffic has been restored on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) on Tuesday after day-long clearance operations, officials said. A landslide on Monday had forced authorities to shut the critical stretch near Ramban, they said.

As per the latest update, passenger vehicles have now been allowed to ply from both sides — Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa – on the highway.

Vehicular movement was suspended on the highway due to landslides and shooting stones, which posed an increased risk to travellers. According to Traffic Department officials, both highway tunnels between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote were closed on Monday.

Authorities later confirmed that more than 400 vehicles were stuck at different areas on the highway. These were cleared first to monitor traffic movement on the passage.

Meanwhile, traffic police have advised travellers to strictly adhere to lane discipline, warning that overtaking and wrong-lane driving could lead to congestion on the critical highway.

Officials also urged travellers and general public to avoid paying heed to rumours and verify road status through official channels, including the social media accounts of the Traffic Department and Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban.
