The incharge of a transport company was shot dead at the interstate bus terminal (ISBT) in Amritsar on Tuesday. The deceased, Makhan, who was hit by four bullets, died on the spot. The police recovered six empty shells from the scene and are going through the CCTV footage to identify the assailant.
Initial probe suggests that the attack was triggered by a heated dispute between employees of two private bus companies over picking up passengers first. One of the employees pulled out a firearm in a fit of rage, opened fire at Makhan and fled. Police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
Shortly after the incident, the Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the killing. The gang members posted on the social media that Makhan was close to gangster Jaggu Baghwanpuria and that the killing was an act of revenge for the deaths of their associates. The gang warned that the “wrongdoings of Jaggu’s gang” would be avenged.
