Two people, including the driver of a dumper truck and a woman living in a roadside hut, lost their lives after the heavy vehicle overturned near the Bhadrakali crossroads on Friday morning, police officials said.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the dumper truck reportedly lost control while passing through the area. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged nearly 20 metres down into an adjoining field. Due to the force of the crash, two large concrete road dividers installed along the roadside were uprooted and hurled toward a nearby hut situated on the left side of the road.
The concrete slabs crashed onto the hut, trapping a woman inside. The impact caused severe damage to the structure, leaving local residents shocked and terrified. The woman, identified as Kaushalya, a resident of Narender Nagar, suffered critical injuries in the incident.

Soon after the accident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. SDRF inspector-in-charge Kavindra Sajwan said rescuers worked to remove the heavy concrete dividers and pull the woman out from beneath the debris. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, locals at the scene rescued the dumper driver before the SDRF team arrived and shifted him to a hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite efforts by medical staff, he too succumbed to his injuries. The driver was identified as Farukh, a resident of Haridwar.
Police officials said preliminary investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The tragic incident created panic in the area, with several residents gathering at the site after hearing the loud crash. Authorities are also examining whether overspeeding, brake failure, or road conditions may have contributed to the accident.
