In a gruesome incident in Uttar Pradesh, a container truck rammed into a bus and ran over passengers standing in front of the parked vehicle on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Saturday, killing six people and injuring others, police said.
The accident, which took place at around 2.45 am in the Sureer police station area, happened when a truck rammed into the side of a bus that had stopped midway on the Yamuna Expressway for passengers needing to relieve themselves. The bus was on its way from Noida to Rasulabad in Kanpur Dehat district.
The container truck also ran over passengers waiting in front of the parked bus, Senior Superintendent of Police of Mathura, Shlok Kumar, said, adding that at least three people were injured. The truck’s driver managed to flee, but efforts are on to trace him, he said.
Six people who died on the spot have been identified as Sonu (32), Devesh (32), Aslam (27), Santosh (45), Anurag (27) and Pramod (35), officials informed.

Shivkant Dubey (46), is among the injured and undergoing treatment at a district hospital. He is said to be in a serious condition.

District Magistrate Chandraprakash Singh and SSP Shlok Kumar visited the hospital to inquire about the injured passenger’s condition and assured all possible assistance. Singh also said that ex-gratia compensation would be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured as per rules.
A case has been registered, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. The remaining passengers were transported to their destinations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, took cognisance of the road accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
He directed officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite relief efforts.
