In a major breakthrough against extremist activities, police in Jharkhand has arrested a sub-zonal commander of the banned outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC).

The accused, Viram Ram, also known as Vikram ji and Arvind ji, was apprehended following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to the police, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act. The arrest follows a tip-off received on May 3 by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ranchi, regarding the presence of the absconding extremist in Dhobi Tola area of Chandwa town in Latehar district.

Acting on the information, a special raiding team was constituted under the supervision of senior officers. The team, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Khalari, conducted a joint operation with local police and surrounded the accused person’s residence. He attempted to flee from the rear of the house, but was successfully apprehended and taken into custody.

During interrogation, Viram Ram reportedly confessed to his involvement in several extremist incidents, including a recent firing at a brick kiln in the Budhmu Police Station area. Based on his disclosure, police recovered a cache of arms and equipment from an under-construction house in Chapar village. The seized items include a 9 mm pistol, one magazine, seven live cartridges, an Android mobile phone, and two routers.

Police officials stated that the accused has been associated with TSPC for nearly 15 years and operated as a sub-zonal commander across multiple Police Station jurisdictions, including Budhmu, Thakurgaon, Patratu, Khalari, Kanke, Keredari, Piparwar, Pithoria, McCluskieganj and Ratu.

He is alleged to have extorted money from contractors, brick kiln owners, coal traders, and crusher operators by issuing threats and orchestrating violent attacks, including firing and arson, against those who refused to comply.

Authorities described his arrest as a significant challenge overcome, noting that several members of his group had been arrested earlier. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend remaining associates and identify individuals who may have aided him.
