The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Asia’s largest, has recorded a footfall of 177,869 visitors in the first 16 days since it opened to the public.
Officials said the final count is likely to be much higher as data from online ticketing has not yet been included in the figure.
Authorities at the garden expressed satisfaction over the massive turnout of both local residents and domestic travellers, despite erratic weather conditions prevailing in the region for the past two weeks.
According to officials, the visitor count till yesterday stood at around 180,000, excluding online bookings. With daily arrivals ranging between 15,000 and 20,000, the total is expected to cross the two-lakh mark today or tomorrow.
With the tulips approaching full bloom, the garden is anticipated to witness a sharp surge in visitors in the coming weeks.
Situated at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range overlooking Dal Lake, the garden this year features around 70–75 varieties of tulips and remains a major highlight of Jammu and Kashmir’s spring tourism season.
Last year, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden achieved a record-breaking season, attracting over 8.55 lakh (855,125) visitors between March 26 and April 24. It set an all-time high of more than 81,000 visitors in a single day.
