A local court in Bhopal on Friday remanded Giribala Singh, mother-in-law of deceased model-actor Twisha Sharma, and her husband Samarth Singh to five days of CBI custody in connection with the high-profile death case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation produced both accused before the court and sought five days’ custody for detailed interrogation. Samarth Singh, who was already under CBI remand, was granted an extension of custody for another five days.
Justice Shobhana Bhalawe allowed the agency’s plea seeking custody of Giribala Singh, a former judge, and Samarth Singh, a lawyer by profession.
Advocate Anurag Srivastava, representing Twisha Sharma’s family, said both accused would remain in CBI custody till 2 pm on June 2.
“The agency informed the court that both accused need to be questioned in detail and their custodial interrogation is necessary,” Srivastava told reporters outside the court.
“We now feel that the investigation is moving in the right direction. The real facts will come to light,” he added.
The development comes days after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted earlier to Giribala Singh by a sessions court on May 15.
In a 17-page order, Justice Devnarayan Mishra observed that the anticipatory bail granted to the former district judge deserved to be quashed in view of the factual aspects and allegations levelled against her. The CBI subsequently arrested Giribala Singh on Thursday.

Before being produced in court, Samarth Singh underwent a medical examination at JP Hospital in Bhopal, while Giribala Singh also underwent a health check-up.
CBI officials brought the mother-son duo to court in separate vehicles and placed them in the same dock during the hearing.
According to officials, the agency plans to confront the two accused face-to-face to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the 33-year-old former model and actor and verify inconsistencies in their statements.
Twisha Sharma was allegedly found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.
The CBI took over the probe earlier this week and registered a fresh FIR against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh.
Twisha’s family has alleged that she was subjected to persistent domestic violence and harassment over dowry demands following her marriage to Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. They claimed the mental and physical torture drove her to take the extreme step.
Prior to her arrest, Giribala Singh had denied the allegations in media interviews and made counterclaims regarding Twisha’s mental health and medical history.
