A second post-mortem report in the death of Twisha Sharma, conducted by a medical board from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the alleged ligature material, strengthening forensic links in the case.

The five-member board submitted its 11-page report to the CBI in a sealed cover on Friday, in compliance with directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The second post-mortem examination had been conducted on May 24.

According to sources, laboratory and histopathological analyses confirmed that skin tissue found on the gymnastics belt — allegedly used in the hanging — matched the injury pattern on the victim’s neck. The findings address a key question in the investigation regarding whether the belt with a metal ring was indeed the ligature used.

The issue had remained unresolved after the first autopsy, as the alleged ligature material was not presented before the medical board at the time. This prompted the High Court to order a fresh post-mortem examination by a specialised team from AIIMS Delhi.

Sudhir Gupta, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, said the board’s opinion was based on detailed scientific examination and analysis of available evidence, as well as relevant national and international research. He, however, declined to reveal specific details, noting that the report had been submitted to the CBI in a sealed envelope as per court instructions.

Twisha Sharma, the daughter-in-law of retired judge Giribala Singh, was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12.

Following allegations of lapses in the initial investigation and post-mortem, her family approached the High Court, which ordered a second autopsy and later transferred the probe to the CBI.

The AIIMS forensic report is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation as the agency continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
