In a significant operation against organised crime, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police arrested two accused in Bathinda and seized illegal weapons and ammunition from their possession on Saturday.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on X, stating that police recovered two country-made .32 bore pistols along with five live cartridges during the action.

Calling it a major success, the DGP said the arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive against gangster networks operating in the state.

According to preliminary investigations, the two accused were allegedly associated with a criminal network being run by a jailed gangster who remains active in the Ferozepur area.

Police said both men have a criminal record and are facing several cases, including charges related to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act. A case has been registered at Civil Lines Police Station in Bathinda. Further probe is underway to uncover the network's wider connections and identify other people linked to the gang.

The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against organised crime and maintaining peace and public safety across the state. Meanwhile, in a separate operation conducted on Thursday, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted a cross-border drug trafficking network and arrested six persons.

During the operation, police recovered 30.045 kg of heroin, dealing a major blow to narcotics smuggling activities in the region. Initial investigations revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with a Dubai-based smuggler who was arranging the supply of heroin consignments from across the border.

Police said the accused collected the consignments from pre-decided locations on the instructions of the overseas handler and later distributed the drugs to different recipients across Punjab.

Officials said the operation successfully exposed and dismantled an organised network involved in the transportation and distribution of narcotics in the state. The large seizure is being seen as a major achievement in Punjab Police's ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and organised smuggling rackets.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.

Police suspected the involvement of international links in the case. They added that the accused were allegedly operating under the directions of the Dubai-based smuggler, who coordinated the movement and delivery of heroin consignments.
