A senior police officer said the incident happened early in the morning in the Basaguda police station area while a joint team of security forces was conducting an operation.
The operation involved personnel from the 229th battalion of the CRPF and the 206th CoBRA battalion. During the operation, two personnel were injured after accidentally triggering a pressure IED.
The injured constables, Mridul Barman and Mohd Ishaq from the CoBRA battalion, were treated at the Basaguda CRPF camp and are out of danger. They were later sent to a hospital in Raipur for further treatment.
Maoists often place IEDs on roads and paths in the forests to target security forces during patrols in the Bastar region, which includes seven districts, such as Bijapur. Civilians have also been injured by such traps in the past.
