At least two people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents across Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.
A 78-year-old retired teacher and his grandson were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck in Rajouri district on Sunday evening, they said.
The accident occurred near Rah Salyot between Bhambla and Sunderbani along the Jammu–Poonch national highway. The victims, who have been identified as Dev Raj (78) and his grandson Manik Rana (25), were both in the car when a truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on. Both sustained serious injuries in the collision and were rushed to a hospital in Sunderbani, where they succumbed to their injuries.
In a separate incident, five people were injured when their vehicle collided with another near the Zojila pass on Monday morning.
The injured were first shifted to PHC Sonamarg and later referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment. The injured have been identified as Manzoor Hussain (son of Sadiq Ali Balti), Shabir Hussain (son of Hussain Ali Balti), Sadiqa Bano (wife of Manzoor Hussain Balti), Masrat Zara (daughter of Manzoor Hussain), and Fareeda Bano (daughter of Moad Hussain)—all residents of Kargil.
Police have taken cognisance of both incidents, officials added.
