The Gurdaspur Police arrested two more operatives of radicalised gangsters Gurdev Jassal and Gurlal alias Gullu, associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist, and recovered three .32 caliber pistols, live cartridges and magazines from them.
Those arrested have been identified as Lovedeep Singh alias Love, a resident of Bains in Nawanshahr, and Tek Chand alias Tinku, a resident of Beesla village in Behram, SBS Nagar.
The development came a day after two operatives of the same gangsters were arrested in connection with two recent firing incidents linked to extortion. A sophisticated 9-mm pistol was recovered from their possession.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary probe has revealed that the duo was tasked by their handlers abroad with carrying out targeted killings of rival gang members in Punjab as part of a larger conspiracy to spread terror and unrest in the state. The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to dismantle their network.
Sharing operational details, Border Range DIG Sandeep Goel said that acting on reliable inputs, police teams from Gurdaspur arrested both the accused from Adda Bakshiwal at Kalanaur. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days.
Police teams have also impounded their white-coloured Volkswagen Jetta sedan car without registration number, which was being used to carry out criminal activities. A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered.
