A double murder rocked Pundri town in Haryana’s Kaithal district on Friday morning.
The victims were Rajender and his uncle Veerbhan, both residents of Pai village under Pundri police station. They were shot dead within minutes of each other.
Rajender was riding a two-wheeler near Jatheri village when two attackers on another bike opened fire at him. A few kilometres away, Veerbhan was also shot dead in Pai village.
Police sources said the murders appear to be linked to an old rivalry. In 2012, a land dispute in the same area had led to two killings, and both Rajender and
Veerbhan were named as accused in that case. Investigators believe this past enmity is the main motive behind the crime.
Kaithal Superintendent of Police Upasna visited both crime scenes and spoke to the media. “We received information about a murder in Jatheri village, followed shortly by another in Pai village. Both deceased are from the same family. Preliminary inputs indicate an old enmity. The DSP (Crime) is supervising the probe.
Three CIA teams, other Kaithal police units, and four Special Task Force teams have been deployed. Police in neighbouring districts have also been alerted. The accused have been identified and arrests will be made soon,” she said.
Forensic teams have gathered evidence from both locations, and post-mortem examinations are being conducted.
