With the first phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 just days away, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified its campaign, with the party’s All-India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee calling for unity and aggressive grassroots mobilisation.
Addressing a massive gathering of party leaders and workers on Tuesday, Banerjee urged cadres to set aside internal differences and focus entirely on the electoral battle ahead. “The time has come to forget our differences. For the next 15 days, cast aside all egos and fight together as a united front,” he said, delivering a clear message of cohesion ahead of the polls.
The meeting witnessed the presence of candidates, Members of Parliament, leaders of frontal organisations, spokespersons, Zilla Parishad members, and councillors—altogether numbering nearly 30,000 attendees. Banerjee also issued a stern warning against any dereliction of duty, stating that the party leadership is closely monitoring performance across every Assembly constituency.
Taking a sharp dig at the BJP, Banerjee asserted that financial muscle would not translate into electoral success in Bengal. “Even if the BJP spends crores to build momentum, it will be in vain. The soil of Bengal remains with Trinamool,” he declared.
He also launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission, alleging bias in favour of the ruling party at the Centre. Calling it an “extended wing” of the BJP, Banerjee further accused central agencies of being used to influence the electoral process. “The BJP wants to conduct this election through central agencies, but the people have already made up their minds,” he said.
Amid the ongoing controversy over alleged voter list deletions, Banerjee framed the electoral contest in stark terms. Claiming that 27 lakh names had been struck off the final rolls under the assumption that they were TMC supporters, he challenged opponents to prove otherwise. “Our vote share will only increase. Even if 1 crore names are deleted, Trinamool will still return to power,” he asserted.
Projecting confidence, Banerjee said the party is poised to surpass its performance in the 2021 Assembly elections. Citing various opinion polls, he claimed that the BJP has already acknowledged its impending defeat in the state. “This time, Trinamool’s vote share will shatter all previous records and surpass 2021,” he stated.
The meeting is being seen as a strategic push by the TMC leadership to galvanise its rank and file ahead of the crucial first phase of polling. With the campaign entering its final stretch, Banerjee’s address has set the tone for an all-out offensive by the ruling party in the days to come.
