Jammu and Kashmir's former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday called the United States the biggest enemy of Muslim nations, accusing it of allegedly undermining the sovereignty of Islamic countries under the guise of promoting democracy around the world.

During her press briefing in Srinagar on Friday, she said, “One country in the world has developed a habit of intervening in Muslim countries.” She accused the United States of toppling several governments in the developing world.

She said, “The United States envelops itself with the rhetoric of human rights and women’s rights, but in reality, it has only intervened in oil-rich nations.”

She added, “The US has destroyed many Islamic nations, particularly in the Middle East. It’s the same country that has allowed Israeli oppression in Gaza to continue for more than two years without doing anything.”

On Friday, pro-Iran protests were held in several parts of Kashmir, especially in Srinagar and Budgam. The former chief minister, while expressing support for the Iranian government, said, “I feel very happy to see that people in Jammu and Kashmir have supported Iran.”

“I hope everyone in Jammu and Kashmir understands that the United States has no permanent friends when it comes to Islamic nations. It is, in fact, the biggest enemy of Muslims,” she said.

She also went on to caution Iran against engaging in talks with the US and Israel, saying that both countries have always ditched negotiations with Tehran and have killed several key people, including political, military, and administrative officials, over the past five years.

She warned Iran not to fall into the US–Israel trap, saying, “If the people of Iran do not understand this now and fall back into the trap of America and Israel, then, God forbid, Iran’s situation will become worse than that of Syria.”

She highlighted Iran’s good relations with India and also with Kashmir. However, she noted that since the “BJP government came to power; the entire political system in the country has changed. People don’t protest now to express their voices, but today they have done so, and it’s a good thing.”
