Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked International Women's Day on Sunday by paying an emotional tribute to the central role women play in shaping both the family and the wider community. Speaking at a cultural event in the state, Dhami suggested that the progress of entire generations is rooted in the "unique inspiration" and selflessness of women. He pointed out that the mother often forgoes her own comforts and goes through many hardships to provide her children with a strong foundation in life. He described the presence of the mother as the vital force in the household.

The remarks made by the Chief Minister were in line with the feeling of the nation as expressed by the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi. The latter extended his own greetings to the "Nari Shakti" or woman power of the nation. The Prime Minister pointed out the changing role of women in the development of the nation. He pointed out that the contribution of women to different professional fields is now the foundation of the development of the nation. This is not only a matter of social justice but the main reason for the creation of a developed India.

Over the past decade, the government has been emphasising the development programs led by women, with the Prime Minister reaffirming his commitment to the fact that the empowerment of women is the central pillar of the government’s policy framework. He emphasised the revolutionary results that these programs have delivered at the grassroots level, where women are being empowered to achieve their potential and lead the charge towards nation-building.

Observed every year on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day is marked globally as a day to commemorate the contributions and leadership of women. On this day, the country reaffirmed its commitment to the collective promise of ensuring the security, integrity, and financial independence of women, recognising that the aspirations of the women would continue to lead the country towards a prosperous future.
