Continues heavy rain in Uttarakhand has caused the River Ganga to swell dangerously. At Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, the water has risen so high that it is now touching the Shiva idol at the Aarti Sthal.
Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi, an employee at the ashram, shared that a cloudburst in Uttarkashi on Tuesday led to a sharp rise in the river’s water level.
“Right now, the water level of the Ganga is rising all over Parmarth, and even the Shiva idol is starting to sink. Yesterday's accident in Uttarkashi has caused the water level here to go well above the danger mark. We need to be very careful and help others as much as possible. It's a big tragedy,” he added.

He further said for safety, the ashram has closed all entrances to the river ghats and restricted access to the riverbanks. “We have also ordered that no one is allowed to go near the banks of the Ganges. All the entrances to the ghats have been locked to keep people safe,” Dwivedi added.
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with disaster management teams at the State Emergency Operations Centre to review the situation in Dharali, Uttarkashi, where the cloudburst struck.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Chief Minister Dhami over the phone to check on the damage and the progress of rescue efforts. According to officials, the PM was briefed on the relief work being carried out in the affected areas.
