Founder-chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and actor-politician Vijay on Sunday criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government for "custodial deaths" and accused the "empty, publicity-model DMK sarkar has now become a sorry model sarkar." Speaking at TVK's protest rally here, Vijay said that the custodial torture victim Ajith Kumar belonged to an average family and the chief minister has apologised to the family of the victim and it is befitting.

Dressed in black, Vijay waved a placard that stated, "Sorry Vendam, Needhi Vendum (We want justice, not sorry)." The TVK chief questioned if "Stalin said sorry" to the relatives of all the 24 victims of suspected custodial torture (causing deaths) during the DMK rule, since 2021.

"Say sorry to them as well; also, did you offer solatium to the relatives of all the 24 victims? Please offer solatium to them too," he added.

When the then AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government shifted the Sathankulam case (in which P Jeyaraj and his son J Benniks were reportedly tortured to death at the hands of police in 2020), Stalin had declared that it was an insult to Tamil Nadu police, Vijay alleged.

The leader of the nascent party wondered whether the DMK government, which days ago shifted the Ajith Kumar custodial death case to the CBI, had not done the same indignity and added that both such incidents were only the same.

Moreover, Vijay inquired, "Why are you taking cover behind the CBI?", which is nothing but only the puppet of the RSS and the BJP. It was because his party, the TVK has approached the court for an investigation by a special investigation team and "fearing" such an action, the DMK government is taking cover behind the union government.

The state government has been questioned by the court in a number of cases of "atrocities" such as Anna varsity girl student sexual assault and Ajith Kumar custodial torture.

"If the court has to ask questions and intervene for everything, then why are you there? what is the purpose of the government? and the chief minister's office? Whatever may be the questions, there are not going to be any answers. The government may provide answers only if it had answers and it does not have any answers in this matter, he alleged."

"The largest reaction from you is sorry and the vain, publicity-model DMK sarkar has now turned into a sorry model sarkar," he mocked, taking a dig at the DMK government.

In the "inept DMK government's final days," it must set right the law and order situation. Otherwise, by coming together with the people, "we will make you do it," Vijay threatened.

'Sarkar' (governance) is a Vijay-starrer movie that was released in the year 2018.
