The chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, flew to Delhi on Sunday afternoon for a second round of questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Travelling by a chartered plane at around 4:15 PM, Vijay is scheduled to appear at the agency's headquarters on Monday, January 19.

This follow-up meeting comes after an initial six-hour interrogation on January 12 regarding the horrific Karur stampede of September 2025. That tragedy claimed 41 lives and left dozens more injured during a massive rally. While investigators originally wanted him to return the very next day, Vijay had requested a postponement to observe the Pongal harvest festival, a request the agency granted.

The CBI is digging into several specific aspects of that day, particularly the timeline of events. During his first session, sleuths reportedly grilled the superstar on why he was nearly seven hours late to the venue and, more pointedly, why he continued his speech even as people in the crowd were visibly fainting. They also questioned his decision to leave Karur immediately after the tragedy occurred.

Vijay, reportedly, defended his actions, explaining that he left the scene after he realised his presence would draw even larger crowds. He was also asked to clarify whether he had anticipated such a massive turnout and what his perspective was on the security failures that led to the crush.

For the CBI, tomorrow’s session is about more than just his story; they intend to cross-reference Vijay’s statements with the testimonies already provided by other TVK functionaries. As the party prepares for its electoral debut, the outcome of this investigation into the Karur tragedy remains a significant shadow over its campaign.
