With the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s West Bengal chapter has intensified efforts to strengthen its organisational base in the state. Continuing a series of restructuring moves, the state unit of the BJP on Tuesday announced new in-charges for its seven major organisational fronts, signalling an early push to energise the party at the grassroots level.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya released the list of new appointees, stating that the responsibilities will be effective immediately for the 2026-27 period. Party sources said the reshuffle is part of a broader strategy to place experienced and active leaders in charge of key social and organisational wings ahead of the crucial electoral battle.
According to the party leadership, the primary objective of the reorganisation is to strengthen the BJP’s outreach across different sections of society, including youth, women, farmers, backward classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities. Political observers view the move as an attempt to consolidate support among diverse social groups and to mobilise party workers well in advance of the elections.
As per the new appointments, Soumitra Khan has been named the in-charge of the Youth Front, while former Member of Parliament Locket Chatterjee has been entrusted with leading the Women’s Front. To rejuvenate the farmers’ wing, Bapi Goswami has been appointed as the in-charge of the Kishan Morcha. Ajit Das will oversee the Other Backward Classes (OBC) Morcha.
Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato has been given responsibility for the Scheduled Caste Morcha, Khudiram Tudu has been appointed as the in-charge of the Scheduled Tribe wing, and Amitabh Roy will head the Minority Morcha.
Party leaders claim that this redistribution of responsibilities will significantly enhance the BJP’s organisational reach across West Bengal. Political analysts believe the latest reshuffle indicates that the state BJP has formally begun preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections by overhauling its organisational structure and sharpening its focus on grassroots-level engagement.
