In an unexpected yet heartfelt turn of events, former state BJP president, ex-Member of Parliament, and former MLA Dilip Ghosh is all set to begin a new chapter in his personal life.
The 60-year-old political leader will marry Rinku Majumdar in a private ceremony at his New Town residence on Friday, with only close friends and family in attendance.
Sources close to Ghosh revealed that this decision came after a period of emotional reflection following his defeat in the last Lok Sabha elections. During this time, Rinku Majumdar, a divorcee and mother of a son employed in the IT sector in Sector V, expressed her desire to start a life with him.
While Ghosh was initially hesitant, his mother and close circle encouraged him to consider marriage, emphasizing the value of companionship, especially as his mother wished to see her son settled. They also highlighted the importance of having a family support system, particularly with Ghosh’s busy political career.
The turning point came on April 3, during an IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens. Ghosh attended the match from box number 11 of the clubhouse alongside Rinku, her family, and her son.
That evening is believed to have strengthened the couple’s decision to formalise their bond.

As news of the upcoming marriage spread on Thursday, Ghosh was approached for confirmation. True to his style, he quipped, “Why, can’t I get married? Is getting married a crime?” His response neither confirmed nor denied the reports, but it did little to quell speculation.
Despite several attempts to reach him for comment, Ghosh remained silent. However, sources close to the leader confirmed the news, describing it as a “brave” step.
Sources within the BJP shared that while some members of the Sangh Parivar attempted to dissuade Ghosh from going through with the marriage, he remained resolute in his decision.
“Two senior Sangh members are said to have visited his residence to discuss the matter. Despite these discussions, the ceremony is scheduled to take place, with support coming in from several quarters within the BJP. Leaders Sunil Bansal and Satish Dhanda are expected to visit Ghosh to congratulate him,” a BJP leader said.
The wedding is expected to be a simple, no-frills affair, in line with Ghosh's preference for a modest celebration. Only close friends and family will be invited to witness the event.
Despite the personal change, his political commitments remain intact, and he is expected to remain actively involved in the upcoming assembly elections, potentially contesting again.
Those close to Ghosh noted that his mother, who lives with him, had long hoped to see her son married and settled. The family had also expressed concerns about who would care for her and their dog, Nadu, during Ghosh’s frequent political travels.
Sources also indicated that Ghosh had initially resisted the idea of marriage, hoping that he would be reinstated as the state BJP president. However, after realising that the central leadership was unlikely to make any changes before the 2026 assembly elections, he began to embrace the idea of settling into family life.
With this new chapter, Dilip Ghosh—once known as the ‘eternal bachelor’—is set to step into a new role as a family man. While it remains uncertain whether a grand reception will follow, the focus for now is on the intimate ceremony and the beginning of this significant new journey in his personal life.
