With the publication of the first supplementary voter list imminent, the state administration has heightened its security preparedness amid concerns over a potential deterioration in law and order.
In a late-night notification issued on Saturday, the state secretariat—through its Department of Home and Hill Affairs—alerted all District Magistrates to remain on high vigil. The “first supplementary list” is expected to be released on Monday evening.
The communication underscored the need for immediate and comprehensive precautionary measures, including intensified surveillance in sensitive areas, crowd control mechanisms, and strict maintenance of public order.
Officials have been directed to ensure that all arrangements are put in place without delay. The administration emphasised that the focus extends beyond the smooth publication of the voter list to preventing any untoward incidents throughout the broader election process.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India is set to hold a crucial meeting this afternoon to finalise the deployment strategy of central forces across the state. Scheduled around 2:00 PM at the office of the State Chief Electoral Officer, the meeting of the Joint Force Deployment Committee will bring together key officials, including State Special Observer N.K. Mishra and the senior police authorities.
Among those expected to attend are Additional Director General (Legal) Anand Kumar, CRPF Inspector General Salabh Mathur, and Traffic Department Inspector General Gaurav Sharma. Discussions will center on determining the number of central force units required in each district, in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines.
Sources indicate that the meeting will also focus on coordination between central forces and state police, route marches, and booth-level security planning. With the Assembly elections approaching, both the Election Commission and the state administration appear to be adopting a firm and proactive stance to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
