Weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir have shown improvement on Tuesday morning after heavy rain and snowfall lashed several parts of the Union Territory throughout Monday.
While the plains received heavy rainfall, the higher reaches and remote areas experienced fresh snowfall, which disrupted traffic movement and normal life. The fresh spell of rain and snowfall caused a dip in temperatures amid windy conditions across the region.
The inclement weather triggered landslides and snow accumulation, particularly along the Bandipora–Gurez inter-district road near Razdan Top. Several vehicles were stranded due to heavy snowfall and landslides on Monday. Officials said snow clearance operations were underway on the affected roads.
On Tuesday morning, the district administration, along with teams from the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), safely evacuated nearly two dozen vehicles carrying tourists and local passengers.
The vehicles were stranded at multiple locations due to mudslides, falling rocks and slippery road conditions. All stranded tourists were provided necessary assistance, including medical aid.
A landslide was also reported in the Uri area of Baramulla district, blocking the road. Authorities deployed men and machinery to clear the debris.
Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall and accumulation at several key passes.
