A shocking scene unfolded in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district when a woman attacked an elderly man outside a government office. She reportedly poured oil on him and even tried to put a garland of shoes around his neck. The incident drew a crowd, and the police later stepped in to control the situation.
The man was identified as Deshbandu from Banda village in Rakkar tehsil. He had gone to the subdivisional office in Dehra for a court hearing. The woman, identified as Asha Devi from Dobha village in Mandi district, confronted him suddenly, leading to a violent altercation in front of many people.
Asha Devi reportedly threw a container of oil suddenly on Deshbandu, drenching his clothes and hair. She then tried to place a garland of shoes around his neck and slapped him several times. The commotion created panic among the crowd, and people rushed to stop her. The police, who were also present, managed to restrain her and took her into custody for legal action.
A video of the incident has gone viral online, showing the full intensity of the attack. In the footage, Asha Devi is seen grabbing Deshbandu by his collar and refusing to let him go. A police officer and several bystanders try to calm her down.
Deshbandu appears drenched in oil in the entire video. The officer can be heard pleading with her, saying, “Chhodo, maan jao (Leave him, please understand),” but she keeps resisting. At one point, she slaps the elderly man again while the officer tries to pull her away.
The video has sparked outrage on social media, with users expressing anger over the attack.
One user wrote, “Whatever the issue may be, who gave this woman the right to attack an old man in broad daylight? If the roles were reversed, it would have been a national issue by now.”
Another commented, “The attacker should have been arrested on the spot.”
A third person added, “No matter what the reason, the woman should be jailed.”
The attack is reportedly linked to an old dispute. Deshbandu had filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra about a land-related case in Rakkar tehsil.
He alleged that a village headman had changed a woman’s identity to register government land in her name. The land, located in Chameti village, was recorded under a woman named “Asha Devi, daughter of Bimla Devi, widow of Ramkrishna from Ramnagar village.”
However, the report claims that no such woman existed in that family.
Deshbandu said he only went to the authorities to report the fraud. It is believed that Asha Devi’s attack was in retaliation to this complaint.
