A woman was found murdered inside a rented room in the Devinagar area of Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district on Monday morning. Police have detained her partner from the spot after locals raised an alarm.
Police said they got a call around 9:30 am and immediately sent a team to the crime site. The victim, identified as Mala Devi from Uttar Pradesh, was found lying in a pool of blood.
Her partner, Sheesh Pal from Haryana, was inside the room and made no attempt to run. Locals alerted the police, who arrested him on the spot. A forensic team also reached the room and collected evidence.
In the initial investigation, police found that the accused was drunk when he allegedly hit the woman on the head with a glass bottle, leading to her death.
Sirmaur SP Nishchint Singh Negi said the couple had been living together, but it is still unclear if they were married or in a live-in relationship. This will be confirmed after speaking to the woman’s family.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway, police said.
