A shocking incident unfolded in South Kolkata on Tuesday after a woman was fatally attacked inside a beauty parlour in the Tentultala area. The victim, identified as Rupbani Das (50), succumbed to her injuries, while the accused youth also died later at a hospital.
According to the Police, the incident occurred around noon when a young man entered the parlour, which Rupbani had been running for several years. Initially, nothing appeared unusual. However, shortly thereafter, cries and commotion from inside alerted nearby shopkeepers and locals.
Rupbani’s husband, Anup Kumar Das, rushed to the spot after being informed. Upon entering the parlour, he found the woman under attack. He intervened and managed to overpower the assailant, dragging him outside. It was then noticed that the youth was also critically injured.
Police from the Narendrapur Police Station arrived promptly and rushed both the injured to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Rupbani dead, while the accused later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Preliminary investigations have suggested that the accused, reportedly a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, may have had a personal relationship with the victim. Police suspect that tensions arising from this association could have led to the fatal incident, though the exact motive is yet to be confirmed.
“We are yet to ascertain whether the young man committed suicide after killing the woman, or he was also attacked by the victim,” said a police officer.
The incident, which took place in broad daylight in a densely populated locality, has left residents shaken and raised concerns over safety in the area. Locals expressed fear and demanded stricter security measures.
Police have initiated a detailed investigation and stated that all possible angles are being examined to ascertain the full sequence of events and motive behind the crime.
