In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly scalded with boiling oil after she resisted eve-teasing in Giridih district of Jharkhand. The incident took place on Sunday evening in a village under the Mufassil police station area.
Police have registered an FIR in the matter and arrested one of the accused, while a search is on for the second.
According to the police and the victim’s statement, the woman runs a small breakfast stall to support her family. On Sunday evening, while she was preparing food at her shop, two youths identified as Uday Chaudhary and Manish Chaudhary, residents of a neighbouring village, arrived and allegedly began harassing her.
When she objected to their behaviour, the accused allegedly poured boiling oil on her, leaving her severely burnt.
Hearing her screams, local villagers rushed to the spot and immediately shifted her to Sadar Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
A villager said the woman’s family depends entirely on the income from the stall. He alleged that the two accused youths have a history of misbehaviour and are known for their unruly conduct.
“They come from influential families, which is why people were afraid to confront them earlier. But this time, they crossed all limits. Strict action must be taken against such elements,” he said, adding that villagers are extending all possible support for the woman’s treatment.
Police said that prompt action was taken after receiving information. “A case has been registered, and one accused, Uday Chaudhary, has been arrested. Raids are being conducted to apprehend the second accused, Manish Chaudhary, who is absconding. He will be arrested soon,” said a police officer.
Police have described the incident as serious and said further investigation is underway.
