A 26-year-old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear on Wednesday in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, officials said.
The incident took place early Wednesday morning in Harmoni village when the victim, Goldie Devi, had gone to a nearby forest to collect fodder when a bear suddenly attacked her, leaving her with serious injuries, officials added.
Villagers and family members immediately rushed her to the government hospital in Tharali for treatment. After doctors provided primary medical care, she was referred to another medical facility for further treatment. Officials said the woman remains in critical condition.
Authorities added that Devi, a resident of Boonga village, had come to visit her maternal home when the attack occurred.
Chamoli Chief Medical Officer Dr Abhishek Gupta said that considering the seriousness of her injuries, she was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for advanced medical treatment.
Following the incident, concerned villagers have urged the Forest Department to increase patrolling in the area and introduce stronger safety measures to prevent such attacks in the future.
