A pall of grief fell over Santosh Colony in Dharuhera in Rewari district of Haryana after a young couple was found dead in their rented accommodation on Saturday morning.
The husband and wife, Rajkumar, 26, and Hali, 23, both from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh, were found hanging from a ceiling fan. The local police have started a detailed investigation to understand what led to their deaths.
Police said they found a handwritten note in the room. In it, the couple asked that their bodies be handed over to their parents if they come, and if not, their last rites should be done locally.
They also requested that their belongings be given to Rajkumar’s brother.
According to officers, the couple had posted a message on Instagram just hours before, saying “last good night to everyone.” This online post is now a key part of the investigation.
The couple had been residing in Dharuhera for nearly five years and worked at a private company in the industrial area. Rajkumar’s brother, Mahendra, who lives nearby, told police that the two had attended a party the previous night. What happened after that remains unknown, and the police are still checking if anything from the gathering played a role in what followed.
Mahendra said Rajkumar had breakfast with him around 8 am on Saturday and then went back to his room. When the family got no response after knocking repeatedly two hours later, they looked through a window and found the couple hanging from a single noose. The police were called immediately, and the bodies were taken for a post-mortem.
Investigators said they are now studying the suicide note, the couple’s social media posts, and statements from family members and colleagues to piece together the chain of events before the deaths.
