The second accused in the attack on YouTuber and businessman Salim Wastik was killed in a police encounter late Tuesday night in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. With this, police have eliminated both accused within 48 hours, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Gulfam, was allegedly involved in the February 27 attack on Wastik at his office in Indirapuram. The first accused, Zeeshan, was killed in a separate police encounter late Monday night.
Salim, a resident of Ali Garden under the Loni police station limits, was attacked in the early hours of February 27 while he was sitting in his office in Indirapuram. According to police, two men arrived on a motorcycle, entered the premises, and assaulted him with a sharp weapon.
Wastik was rushed to a nearby hospital by family members and local residents before being referred to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment. His condition remains critical.
Following the incident, Wastik’s son, Usman, lodged a complaint naming Bhati Builder, AIMIM leader Ajgar, Ashraf, Shahrukh, and Sonu. Based on the complaint and CCTV footage from the area, police identified Zeeshan and Gulfam as the two attackers and announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information leading to their arrest.
According to police sources, the Crime Branch received information about Gulfam’s presence in the Khuda area late Tuesday night. A police team set up a checkpoint in Indirapuram after tracking the suspects.
Police officials said that two men on a motorcycle were spotted and signaled to stop. However, they allegedly opened fire while attempting to flee. The exchange of gunfire reportedly injured two police personnel.
During the encounter, one of the suspects was shot in retaliatory fire, and the motorcycle skidded. The injured man was identified as Gulfam, a resident of Amroha district. He was taken into custody and admitted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment.
“Gulfam was shot during the encounter. He was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead,” said J Ravindra Gaur, Police Commissioner of Ghaziabad.
With both primary accused now dead, police said further investigation into the conspiracy and the roles of other named individuals is ongoing.
