A pilgrim from West Bengal was found dead near Gauri Kund in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh. The victim has been identified as Dukhi Ram Sarkar (38), a resident of south Dum Dum. He was last seen on August 7 near the Kinnaur Kailash peak, about 4,800 metres high.

According to the district administration, nearly 553 pilgrims who had started their yatra from Malling Khata village got stranded on August 5 due to bad weather. Out of them, 177 were brought back to Malling Khata the same day. However, heavy rains and rising water levels in a nearby stream left 230 pilgrims stranded in a cave.
