The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced the commencement of registration for its 'Young Scientist Programme', targeting school children, starting on February 20.

This initiative aims to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields among young minds, with the aspiration of nurturing future scientists and engineers.

The 'Young Scientist Programme' seeks to inspire students towards careers in space technology, space science, and related domains.

Through fundamental knowledge and exposure to cutting-edge advancements in these fields, ISRO hopes to empower the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Students currently enrolled in standard 9 across India are eligible to apply for the programme. The registration window will remain open until March 20, providing ample opportunity for interested individuals to submit their applications.

In an official statement posted on the ISRO website, the space agency outlined the objectives of the initiative: "YUva VIgyani KAryakram (Young Scientist Programme) - 2024 is now open for enrollment. Students in standard 9 (as of January 1, 2024), studying in India, are eligible to apply. Registration begins on February 20, 2024, at jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/yuvika."

Emphasizing the importance of cultivating an interest in STEM fields from a young age, ISRO reiterated its commitment to fostering a culture of scientific curiosity and exploration. By providing students with hands-on experiences, exposure to real-world challenges, and mentorship opportunities, the programme aims to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in STEM-related careers.

"The initiative seeks to motivate more students to seek out careers and engage in research within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)," the ISRO said in its announcement.
