Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday mocked the National Democratic Alliance over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s absence from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in Patna, alleging that the BJP was attempting to render its ally “invisible” ahead of the state elections.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Kharge said he had seen “impressive photos” of the Prime Minister’s roadshow but none featuring Nitish Kumar. “Even at the rally, Nitish was nowhere to be seen. They made him disappear to the point where they did not even mention him as Chief Minister. What will happen after this election?” he remarked.

Kharge accused the BJP of political manipulation, saying the Prime Minister was “playing a trick” by sidelining the JD(U) chief. He also took a dig at Nitish Kumar’s multiple stints in office. “Nitish Kumar thinks that having been sworn in nine times, he will be sworn in again. Even if you were sworn in a hundred times, you still haven’t done anything for Bihar,” he said.

The Congress chief criticised the Bihar government’s financial assistance scheme for women, dismissing it as an election-driven move. “They think they will get votes because they put ₹10,000 in women’s accounts. The people of Bihar are smart. Even if you deposit ₹10 lakh, they will vote after thinking,” Kharge said. He questioned why such welfare steps were not introduced earlier. “It didn’t cross their minds for 20 years, nor the PM’s mind for 11 years. These are election promises. PM Modi and Nitish Kumar are misleading people,” he added.

Bihar votes in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14.
