The Ambala City seat in Haryana continues to be a crucial battleground, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing its hold from the 2019 Assembly election.
For the upcoming assembly election, Aseem Goel is standing from BJP while Nirmal Singh Mohra is from Congress. INLD- BSP has fielded Malkit Singh.
Goel has won twice from the seat, which is in 2019 and 2014.
In the last assembly election, the difference between the votes garnered by Goel and Mohra, who stood independently, was way decreased from 2014’s.
BJP's Aseem Goel won the seat with 64,896 votes (42.20%), with a margin of 8,952 votes over Independent candidate Mohra, who garnered 55,944 votes (36.38%).
The victory margin, however, narrowed considerably from the previous election in 2014, when Goel won by 23,252 votes.
As of the 2019 Assembly election, the total voter base stood at 2,54,149, with 248 polling booths.
By the 2024 election, the number of polling booths is expected to increase to 260, reflecting the growing population.
Voter turnout in the 2019 Assembly election was recorded at 60.50%, showing a decline from the 63.74% turnout in the 2019 parliamentary election.
The Indian National Congress (INC) saw a major decline in support, with its candidate Jasbir Mallour securing only 13.07% of the votes, a sharp drop from previous years.
Meanwhile, smaller parties and independent candidates struggled to make a significant impact, reflecting the BJP's continued dominance in this key constituency.
Demographically, Ambala City features a significant Scheduled Caste (SC) population, making up approximately 19.48% of the electorate, with 49,508 SC voters according to the 2011 Census.
The constituency does not have any Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Muslim voters.
The electorate is primarily urban, with 67.63% (171,881 voters) residing in urban areas, while 32.37% (82,268 voters) live in rural regions
