Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday urged voters to defeat what he termed a “slave alliance” and deliver a strong mandate to the DMK-led coalition in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing an election rally at Thiruvottiyur, he called on the electorate to respond to the alleged “betrayal” by the BJP-led government at the Centre, accusing it of causing financial strain on the state.
“Ensure the defeat of the slave alliance in Tamil Nadu. April 23 is the time to give a fitting reply to the BJP government,” he said, in an apparent reference to the alliance between the AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Campaign push in final stretch
Udhayanidhi, who also serves as the DMK youth wing secretary, said the state government under Chief Minister M K Stalin had delivered development across sectors despite facing “fiscal hardship” imposed by the Centre.

With less than 48 hours left for campaigning to end, he urged party workers to intensify outreach efforts and communicate the achievements of the DMK government to voters.
He also asked cadres to highlight the Secular Progressive Alliance’s (SPA) promises on social welfare and development, stressing the need for a renewed mandate.
The Thiruvottiyur constituency, which was won by the DMK in the previous Assembly elections, has been allotted to the CPI(M) as part of the alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement. Udhayanidhi was campaigning in support of CPI(M) candidate L Sundararaj.
Elections to all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 23, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
