Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday vowed to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Assam while safeguarding tribal traditions and Sixth Schedule areas if the BJP returns to power in the forthcoming state assembly elections.
Addressing a large rally in Gogamukh, Dhemaji district, Modi said the move was crucial for preserving Assam’s unique identity and ensuring justice and safety for women.
“Implementing the Uniform Civil Code in Assam and protecting the traditions of our tribal society, Sixth Schedule areas, or saving Assam's identity are very big announcements. The BJP does what it says,” Modi told the crowd. He stressed that these measures were part of broader efforts to uphold the dignity, respect, and security of women across the state.

The Prime Minister also took aim at the opposition Congress, accusing the party of promoting policies that would favour “infiltrators” and undermine the rights of indigenous communities. Contrasting the BJP’s tenure with what he termed the dark era of Congress rule, Modi said the BJP remained committed to development and protecting Assam’s heritage.
Assam goes to the polls on April 9. Modi’s remarks come amid heightened campaign activity across the state, with the BJP seeking a third consecutive term.
