Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday concluded his campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections with a rally in Barrackpore, expressing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government and outlining five key promises focused on jobs, welfare and economic growth.
Calling it his final public meeting in the state during the ongoing campaign, Modi said he was confident of returning after the results on May 4 to attend the BJP’s oath-taking ceremony. “This is my last rally in this election… I am returning with the confidence that after the results on May 4, I will have to come back to attend the BJP’s oath-taking ceremony,” he said.
Campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded on Monday, with 142 constituencies set to go to polls on April 29. Political parties have intensified their final outreach, holding rallies and public meetings to mobilise voters ahead of the deadline.
Addressing the gathering, Modi spoke about his emotional and spiritual connection with West Bengal, describing it as an important part of his personal journey. He said the state had been a source of inspiration, shaped by its cultural legacy and the affection of its people.
The prime minister also reflected on his decades-long political career, saying he had remained continuously engaged in organisational and electoral responsibilities across the country. “Since I left my home, I have found comfort and peace among all of you, and you are my family,” he said.

During the rally, Modi laid out five major assurances, targeting employment generation, support for workers and expansion of new-age economic sectors. He said government recruitment processes in the state would be conducted transparently and vacancies filled promptly, while promising implementation of welfare schemes aimed at both rural and urban populations.
The BJP leader also stressed the importance of boosting the “creative economy” by introducing new initiatives in educational institutions, alongside strengthening financial support for small entrepreneurs and street vendors.
The rally followed his recent visit to the historic Thanthania Kalibari temple in Kolkata, where he offered prayers ahead of campaigning.
With the campaign drawing to a close, the BJP has stepped up its outreach in the state, projecting governance, employment and welfare as central themes of its electoral pitch, while expressing confidence of a decisive mandate.
Leaders from other major parties have also stepped up efforts, seeking to consolidate support across key constituencies. The focus now shifts to polling day preparations, with authorities ramping up security and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth voting process across all 142 seats.
