Elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded on Sunday with a voter turnout of around 83 per cent, with authorities terming the polling largely peaceful despite a few sporadic incidents.
According to Anurag Sen, Secretary of the Tripura State Election Commission, polling began at 7 am and ended at 5 pm across the state.
“The election started at 7 am this morning and concluded with an 83 per cent voter turnout at 5 PM. Polls have now been completed. We are compiling all reports, and by this time, almost all polling stations have closed. No major violence has been reported,” he said.
He added that while minor complaints and instances of chaos were reported in some areas, these were promptly handled by the police.
“Some instances of chaos were also reported in parts of the state, but these were brought under control… As of now, the overall situation remains peaceful,” Sen said.

He also confirmed that there were no reports of malfunctioning electronic voting machines (EVMs) during polling hours, though minor issues detected during mock polls in the morning were addressed through immediate replacement.
The State Election Commission has ordered a re-poll at polling station 17/39 under the 17 Pekurjala-Janmejoynagar constituency in Sepahijala district following complaints of alleged tampering with a ballot unit. The re-poll is scheduled for April 16.
Meanwhile, police reported a few isolated incidents, including the hurling of crude bombs in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala district.
“In response, police fired blank rounds to disperse the miscreants. The situation is now under control,” sources said.
Other incidents included vandalism of a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate. One person was injured in the violence and later succumbed to injuries.
Despite these incidents, officials maintained that the overall polling process remained peaceful.
